The one that was a comment at the Anvil Tree
This was actually a response to a post over at The Anvil Tree, but when I was done with it, it felt more like an entire post then a reply. So this is in response to This.
Cliff notes; Economy sucks
The really scary thing is that despite what people keep saying, I really don’t think we are close to the bottom.
Speculative lending practices and inflated house prices led the need to increase interest rates. Corporations started defaulting/failing.
Inflation leads to lower value American dollar, Fed ups the prime lending rate to compensate, slow spending, stabilize the dollar. Interest rate goes up mortgages go up and people default, and the cycle starts all over again.
I’ve lost 21% of my 401K so far this year, 7% in just the past WEEK! I am hemorrhaging money, but I have30 years to catch back up, God save the people that are close to retirement and taking 20-50% hits.
I make 6 times as much as I did in Huntsville, my car is a little nicer, the place I live is a little bigger, but my spending money isnt anymore then it was back then, if anything its gone down.
70 dollars for a tank of gas I could accept this if I could be offered a good explanation, but with oil company’s reporting record profits, and the price of a barrel of oil changing wildly as the price of a gallon of gas climbs to new highs…
I can hold on till November. …if McCain wins I’m moving to Canada…

Email right in your POCKET!!!!
Peek has partnered with Target Corporation to provide you with something you most likely already have, a smart phone, ah, without the phone. The new PEEK which is roughly the size of your blackberry offers you direct access to your email and… Nope, that’s it just your email. Considering that your average 7th grader now owns some form of cellular technology, PEEK is about 10 years too late to this party, but if you can’t part ways with your Zack Morris 1993 Motorola, AND want access to your email, then PEEK is for you. The PEEK runs 99 dollars + $19.99 a month for service. So grab Screech and get over there now before they sell out.
Sick…Kind of, but not really

A 3 part life, Part 1.
Yesterday I was talking to an old friend, one whom I havent seen in a number of years. Then later that day I heard from another person who hasent been in my life for quite some time, and it got me to thinking about my life. Remembering portions of it long sense forgotten, memories that slowly fade. I want to refresh these memories before they are lost for good.
0-10– I am not sure about others, but when I REALLY think about this part of my life I have a hard time remembering just about anything … there are flashes, but no really sollidconnecting stories. I find it difficult to separate actual memories from photographs I have seen. I have noticed that as I am concentrating on this I am remembering more. Well here goes, part 1 of my 3 part life:
- Riding my big wheel
- Skateboarding with Tim Koonz (creapyhigh school neighbor who hung around a little too long with the young kids in the neighborhood)
- 1987 when the Twins won the World Series for the 1st time.
- Heading out east with my family. I remember stopping at a rest area for breakfast one morning, my mother had bought these red ‘travel trays’ that had different compartments for different food items and they would stack together sealing the preprepared food inside.
- I remember one evening on the trip out east pretending to sleep in the back of the car, I was laying down with my brother and sister, looking out the window because we had just reached some city, I remember looking out the windows at all the lights of the city.
- One Vivid memory I have is walking on the beach at the Jersey Shore with my father, we used to get up and walk down there he would get a news paper and coffee andI would get a danish, red (red’s a fruit right?). Then we would walk on the beach, I remember the hotels that were right on the sand. The doughnut shop was yellow/orange, maybe Duncan doughnuts.
- I remember when my sister was Born. Aug 22nd 1981 I was 3 years old. I had a happy meal and my Grandmother was in town (I think) as well as my Aunt Peggy (although I could be wrong about this). I remember the brown carpet in our old TV room, and the hideous blue Formica counter tops in the kitchen, I remember the blue and gold patterned linoleum and I remember taking the phone in to my hand.
- In fourth grade I was in a school play. I fear my sister may have the proof of this some where. In any event, I remember the bathrobe that I wore, it was my fathers, I remember the touch of the terry cloth against my skin, and the smell of his cologne on the robe.
- I remember that in our school Christmas Program I was always on the last row of the risers, and although I dont remember why, I enjoyed standing as far back as I could so my heals would hang off the back. On more then one occasion I fell
- I remember in grade school when some company came in to “test” a new cereal. We were all brought down to the lunch room and given 10 bowls of cereal, and saltine crackers in between. I remember the cereal was strongly flavored with “Peach” flavoring and that it was awful!
- I remember in kindergarten we had our own little drawers, I remember that I used a red white and blue metallic jet fighter to mark mine, It was one of my favorite toys when I was little.
I am surprised at how many memories came back as I was writing this. More then I expected, and more then I care to write down. There are many more, but those are some of the more vivid memories, and before I drift off into speculation I will stop this list here.

Sure Al Gore invented the InterWebs
But McCain has the BlackBerry’s!
“Politics aside, we’re totally cracking up that McCain policy adviser Douglas Holtz-Eaken told reporters today that his BlackBerry was “the miracle that John McCain helped create” — dude, BlackBerrys are Canadian.” (Engadget)

Steve Jobs, Please help
I love my Iphone, Everybody that has heard me talk about it knows (here I go again with the cell phones)
But I have a few requests, as a growing Apple user, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have listed a few applications I would like see brought to the Iphone:
1) MMS Text messages, How hard can that possibly be? Instead of a link to another page, how about the image is saved to a folder in your “Photos”
2) Nike+ Iphone, I know have been told Read on the internet that this is on its way. I’ll keep my fingers crossed
3) Voice/Turn By Turn Navigation, I have read that TomTom has developed an application that will run on the Iphone and provide turn by turn navigation, but that Apple is concerned about liability if there is some error and somebody follows directions into some sort of hazard!? There has to be a better reason then that… PLEASE Tell me there is a better reason then that!
4) SlingBox for Iphone, again I have read that this application has been completed, but AT&T is concerned about bandwidth usage? Come on if a 2g network can handle the usage then the 3g should easily be able to hold the extra traffic.
5)Issue a patch; How is it that when the new Iphone (3g) comes out my Car Charger(Firewire) and my JBL OnStage no longer will work? This seems the most simple of all, I understand that you want to drive additional purchases, but your also punishing those that have been loyal to your products in the past…
Steve, I think these simple requests are not asking for too much, most of them are already done and just need to be approved, so, what do you say? Can you help me out here?
(PS I Did email Steve Jobs to see if he would respond, I hear that on occasion he does)

Sorry Personal Pet PEEVE!
Republican National Convention: a beginners view.
I’ve been listening to the RNC today on the Radio, and on TV I truly want to give both parties a fair shake. In an effort for full disclosure Obama Captured my interest 4 years ago at the DNC (I believe in Chicago) when he was a key note speaker, I remember one of the commentators making a comment to the effect of “we are watching the birth of a national political career” or something along those lines. So when Obama started running for president I was instantly curious how he would do….
THAT Being said I was listening to the RNC speeches tonight and I have to say that I am Extremely disappointed thus far, I really wanted the Republicans to “earn” my vote, to tell me somethings that they planed on doing and that they thought would make the country better then it has been for the past 8 years….
In my humble political mind, I was disgusted by Fred Thompson, there was no content in his message, just a lot of rhetoric, is this the wrong time to deliver a message with “content”? All Thompson came out and said was “Obama Bad, McCain GOOD” bla bla bla, it had the same unflinching tone, and unapologetic arrogance that has plagued the white house under the Bush administration.
Libermen was better, but I didnt get to hear his whole speech
